![]() For the past several years I’ve wanted to launch a business that helps people do more of what they love, but something has stood in my way: a whiteboard. I would tell my wife, “You know what I really need to make this happen? A whiteboard. I’m a visual person, and if I only had a whiteboard where I could capture all of my thoughts I could finally launch something great. I’m not linear. Writing plans in a Word doc will never work. I’ve gotta have a whiteboard.” This went on for years until three months ago. I had a free afternoon and I did it. I drove over to Office Depot and bought the biggest whiteboard I could find. It’s huge. Like, wall to wall. It’s a perfect landing pad for all of my thoughts and ideas. I came home, screwed it into the wall, and stood back with my hands on my hips feeling totally satisfied and ready to take action. “Tomorrow, I’m going to fill that thing up with ideas. All kinds of ideas.” Guess how many times I wrote on the board over the next three weeks? Zero. Wait, what?! Why? Because it was never actually about the whiteboard. Just like it’s not really about the new computer you think you need to make it happen, or more “time” (as if we’re all walking around with access to different amounts of time), or more contacts, or a quiet studio, or whatever else is stopping you from starting. It’s not about the whiteboard. It never was and it never will be. What stops great people from doing extraordinary things is much deeper than that. So what’s really stopping you?One thing that may be stopping you is knowing where to start. On March 25th, I’m launching my new book Reset: How to Get Paid and Do What You Love into the world for just this purpose: to show people where and how to start. The book will be available on Amazon, Kindle, and eventually as an audiobook. In the meantime, you can pre-order the Kindle version for only $3.99 here: http://amzn.to/1GvX5lU Now go and start something! I coached a client who said this phrase more than 6 times when explaining how she made her choice about which job offer to accept. And guess what was on the other end of that phrase every time?
A value. A core belief.
Values drive decisions. So if you want to make decision more easily, instead of complicating the decision by considering pay, schedule, location, commute, and so on, simplify it by asking:
Then consider the extras. The reality is, if you choose a job based on the extras and neglect the values at the root, you won’t last long anyway. I need your help.
Six years ago I began writing a book to help people figure out what to do with their lives. That book will be complete and launching on Amazon (both print and e-book) on Wednesday, March 25th and I can’t wait. I’ve titled it RESET: How to Get Paid and Love What You Do: It’s been a long time coming. Every time I coached someone on their career or came across someone who didn’t know what to do next I thought, “Man, I’ve GOT to write a book.” This is the book I wish I’d had 10 years ago when I was first trying to figure out what to do for a living and how to love my career. This book is for career changers and career enhancers — people who want to do something else and people who simply want to love more of what they already do. This is where you come in.So, if there’s one thing I’ve figured out about writing a book it’s that you can’t do it alone. Nothing of any value is ever done in a silo. I need your help. I’m looking for 25 people to help me as part of a Launch Team. What’s that? Essentially, it’s a peer group of people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help get the word out about the book. You have more friends than I’ll ever have. You also know more people than I probably do who are looking to reset their careers. Here’s the trade-off: Team Member BenefitsAs a Launch Team member you will get:
Team Member RequirementsAs a member of the Launch Team you:
That’s it! Team Member Sign-UpLeading up to launch date, I’ll send along some short Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter posts that you can copy and paste to your social media to help me get the word out. I’m not trying to break the internet or even become a NY Times Bestseller. I’m simply trying to get the word out to as many people as I can who are looking to improve their career trajectory and need a fresh look at how to do it. Are you in? If so, click “sign up” and complete the form and I’ll reach out with more info! I’m only doing this for the first 25 people that reach out. Sign Up by Monday, March 16th! My new book, Reset: How to Get Paid and Love What You Do, is locked and loaded and ready to launch in print and on Kindle on Wednesday, March 25th. It’s been a long time coming.
Have you ever had that nagging feeling that you should do something but you keep putting it off and putting it off? This book is that for me. I never realized how challenging it can be to write a book. It’s been 85% complete since around 2009 but it took until now to put it out into the world. Why now? I’m not sure. Except that finally, now more than ever, I feel like the time is right to take the message broader. For years I’ve been coaching people on their careers. I’ve coached more than 200 people since 2008 to help them do more of what they love. I feel called to this work. I launched the business officially in 2013 and have met with a steady stream of people looking to do more of what they love and get paid to do it. I’ve known that loving your career was possible since I began loving mine in 2006, but only now am I realizing how many people want the same thing. Guess what? You can do it. It is possible. Reset is my attempt at helping you figure it out. People have asked if I would pre-sell it. The answer is no. Unfortunately it’s too complicated to set up and just not that important to me. That said, what I will do is let you know when it launches if you will do one of two things: 1. Subscribe to my blog here: -OR- 2. Email me at dustin@dustinpeterson.me. For me, 2015 is the year of doing even more of what I love. I hope it is for you too. |
